We all know the old saying: “Money does not grow on trees”. Well, in case of humans, it’s true; no one’s going to exchange you a good, or a service in exchange for anything that grows on trees. But that’s not the case for Negro – a smart black Lab, who’s been successfully exchanging leaves (grown on nearby trees in exchange for delicious treats.
Negro was adopted by the staff of the Diversified Technical Education Institute, in Monterrey Casanare, Colombia, and lives right on campus and is allowed to freely roam the compounds of the College. Sometimes the students of the college buy treats for Negro, as they love his presence in the college.
Getting treats for free from the students and staff of the college wasn’t playing well with Negro, as he carefully watched the students exchange “green paper” in exchange for treats. After a week of careful watch, Negro decided to act upon his idea and came up with his own version of “green paper” (leaves from nearby trees).
According to Angela Garcia Bernal – staff at the college, the canine came up to her desk and presented a leaf with a ‘take it or leaf it’ attitude. She and others were astonished at this gesture and couldn’t help themselves, but buy treats using the “real green paper”, for Negro. Soon enough, Negro’s smartness and cute gesture won hearts and laughs all over the college, and he’s been a personality at the campus ever since.
